FARMHOUSE CIDER CLASSES 1 - 3

§ Entries presented in one gallon or 5 litre glass demi-johns, non-rubber corks, not to be wired down.
§ Demi-john only to bear the official label issued by Devon County Show and secured with string.
§ To be produced from the 2022 year apple crop only and unfiltered.
§ All entries to be non-filtered still Cider, naturally matured without additives. The only permitted additives are sugar and SO2

Class 4 TWO BOTTLES OF 'BOTTLE FERMENTED' CIDER
Presented in 75cl. full weight champagne bottles, with a wired down cork or plastic mushroom stopper. The carbonation must be produced by 'in bottle fermentation'; artificial carbonation is not permitted. The cider must be produced using UK grown apples and may be filtered. Any age cider is permitted with no restriction on specific gravity. The only permitted additives are sugar and SO2.

Class 5 TWO BOTTLES OF CIDER AS PRESENTED TO THE RETAIL TRADE
Two individual bottles of cider as presented to the retail trade. To be judged 60% on content and 40% on presentation. On arrival at the Show exhibits must be presented 'blind'. Cover will be removed following the first stage of judging. Any age cider is permitted with no restriction on specific gravity. The only permitted additives are sugar and SO2.
Class 6 TWO IDENTICAL BOTTLES OF SINGLE VARIETY CIDER
Two identical bottles of single variety cider as presented to the retail trade. Variety must be stated on the label. On arrival at the Show exhibits must be presented 'blind'. Cover will be removed following the first stage of judging. Any age cider is permitted with no restriction on specific gravity. The only permitted additives are sugar and SO2.
APPLE JUICE CLASS

Class 7 TWO BOTTLES OF APPLE JUICE
Two individual bottles of apple juice presented for the retail trade. To be judged 60% on content and 40% on presentation. To be made from freshly pressed UK apples. On arrival at the Show exhibits must be presented 'blind' cover will be removed following the first stage of judging, this is the same as Class 5 where exhibits are judged blind.

HOW TO ENTER

Please enter online at www.devoncountyshow.co.uk by 1st April 2023.
No entries will be accepted after the entries close date and it is a condition of entry that all exhibitors' names will be printed in the cider catalogue.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
After the close of entries you will be sent a pack containing the following:
§ Exhibitor's letter giving full details of when and where to deliver your exhibit(s).
§ Pre-Show vehicle pass entry via Orange (Main) Gate, exit via Green Gate for parking and valid for Wednesday 17th May only. This pass will not admit to the showground at any other time.
§ Labels to be attached to bottles
§ Exhibitor's Day ticket (for entry fees amounting to more than £18).

Then
Exhibitors wishing to have their exhibits staged by Officers of the Devon County Show must arrange for them to be delivered to the Works Office, Devon County Show, Westpoint, Clyst St Mary, Exeter, EX5 1DJ by 13:00 on the day before the Show Wednesday 17th May 2023.

Exhibits are to be delivered to the Food & Drink Exhibition to arrive between 10:30 and 14:00 on Wednesday 17th May 2023. Judging will commence at 15:00. No exhibits will be staged after the time stated, unless by prior arrangement via the Assistant Show Manager, to the Steward of the Cider feature.

Judging:
§ The Judges may withhold a Prize from any class, because of insufficient merit.
§ No exhibit may be tasted, or in any way interfered with, by the exhibitor or any other person, whilst on the Show 'bench' unless accompanied by the Competitions Steward.
§ Judges are drawn from all parts of the country in order to include experience and preference over a full range of taste and regional variations.
§ Judges have the freedom to draw upon their own experience and competence in assessing ciders, without necessarily being bound by any particular formula or system of points for individual cider characteristics.
§ Judges are not able to provide feedback on all individual exhibits.

Prizes:
Prize money is administered by the Devon County Show Office and will be issued post show.
Objections:
Any Exhibitor wishing to lodge an objection having reference to an entry exhibited at this Show must make the same in writing and present this to the Devon County Show Manager. All objections must be delivered to the Show Office on the Showground on the day on which the award is made, and no objection will be subsequently received, unless a reason, satisfactory to the Competition Stewards, be assigned for the delay. The Competition Stewards will consider such objections at a time and place to be fixed by them, at which time and place any person making an objection must attend or be represented by his/her authorised agent. The decision of the Competition Stewards shall be final.

Presentations:
The Cider Trophies will be presented on Friday 19th May . The Competition Stewards request that winners be available to collect their prizes at the presentation and to give interviews if required. Please note all winners are required to sign for their trophies at the Trophy Stewards Office (alongside the Show office).
Exhibitors wishing to have trophies engraved should do so at their own cost but any engraving must be similar in size, style and layout to previous engravings to ensure consistency. The Show will seek reimbursement for the cost of repairing any damage caused to trophies through mishandling or incorrect engraving.

Exhibits may be removed after 18:00 (subject to approval by the Competition Steward) on the last day of the Show. Any exhibits not collected by 19:00 on Saturday will become the property of the Show and will be disposed of.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

1. All entries to be made on the enclosed entry form.

2. The Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA) organisers of the Devon County Show reserve the sole and absolute right to interpret these or any other prescribed regulations, conditions and prize lists, and to finally settle and determine all or any matters, question, difference, in regard thereto, or otherwise arising out of, or in connection, with the Show and to substitute judges for those announced in the prize list, or to make additional appointments as may be deemed necessary.

3. All exhibitors and other persons admitted to the Showground shall be subject to rules, the orders, regulations (including Health and Safety) of the (DCAA) Devon County Show and the Council of the
Devon County Agricultural Association.

4. Force majeure; If an event defined hereafter as Force Majeure occurs the DCAA will not be responsible for the financial consequences or any losses or any actions claims or demands caused to or made by an exhibitor or their servants or agents caused by the failure of the (DCAA) Devon County Show to be held on one or more of the days but for the event of Force Majeure on which it would otherwise to be held. Force Majeure means for the purposes of this clause exceptionally inclement weather; flooding of the whole or any part of the Devon County Showground or the whole or any part of the car parks associated with it ; an act of God including but not limited to fire, flood, earthquake, windstorm or other natural disaster; act of any sovereign including but not limited to war, invasion, act of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power or confiscation, nationalisation, requisition, destruction or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority or imposition of government sanction embargo or similar action; law, judgment, order, decree, embargo, blockade, labour dispute including but not limited to strike, lockout or boycott; interruption or failure of utility service including but not limited to electric power, gas, water or telephone service; failure of the transportation of any personnel equipment, machinery supply or material required by the DCAA to run the Devon County Show; breach of contract by any essential personnel; any other matter or cause beyond the control of DCAA.

5. Photographs and/or film footage will be taken at this event. These images may be used by the Devon County Agricultural Society, its subsidiaries (including but not limited to Devon County Show) and show sponsors in the following ways:
· Printed publicity
· Online publicity (including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram & Twitter)
· Website use - (DCAA, its subsidiaries or sponsors)
· Any other fair use in marketing and promoting the Devon County show by ourselves and our sponsors
They will be stored securely and will not be kept for longer than they are needed for the purposes listed above. 6. The (DCAA) Devon County Show operates to a high Health and Safety Standard. All exhibitors and stewards are expected to meet that standard and comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, which is held in the Association's office.
Information from entry forms will be stored on computer; information about the results may be published and/or provided to the Press for publication. The making of an entry is irrevocable consent for the storage and disclosure of information in this way.


HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR FEATURES EXHIBITORS

The (DCAA) Devon County Show takes pride in welcoming both exhibitors and visitors to the Show. In order that we provide a safe environment for all parties we ask that you comply with the following when on the Showground. For some feature sections additional rules may apply. In the event of a query please speak to your Section Stewards.

Children: Please ensure children are supervised at all times. If possible leave children at home during set up and breakdown; the show site is not a suitable play area as there are a number of moving vehicles and heavy equipment on site during these periods.

Dogs: Please do not bring your dog onto site during set up or break down. During the Show dogs on site must be on a short non retractable lead and under your control at all times. Please do not leave your dogs in your car.

Drones: The use of drones is strictly prohibited on the Showground and car parks during Show week.

Fire: In the event of a fire please follow the instructions of the feature's stewards who will know what action to take. Fire extinguishers are available in all marquees and pavilions and are located near the fire exits, or at a central fire point

First Aid: Our medical centre is open on the Wednesday a day before the Show and this is indicated on our showground maps (near the Lime Tree Café) and 3pm on Sunday 21st May.

General: If you see something that you think is unsafe or wrong then please report this so that we can do something about it!
Slips, Trips and Falls: Please ensure that you keep walkways clear of your belongings, cables or any other objects. Exhibits must be secure and displayed so that they will not topple over during the Show

Smoking: Smoking of any type is not permitted in any of our buildings or temporary structures

Vehicles: Please drive slowly and stick to the designated roadways. Your vehicle must be off site and parked in the appropriate car park by the time advised by your Section. At the end of the Show please do not move your vehicle until permission is given to do so. Quad bikes and motor bikes (other than those in displays) are not permitted on the Showground.

Waste: Please ensure that any waste is placed into the appropriate waste skip provided.
