These classes are run under the rules of the Shetland Pony Stud Book Society. Animals must be registered in the Shetland Pony Stud Book. To compete in this section ponies must not exceed or be expected to exceed 34 inches at maturity. Three year old fillies with foals at foot may not be shown. All entire males aged two years and over must display a stallion disc. In order to enter a stallion class at an affiliated show, Entire males aged 4 years old and over must have an "S" number and have been successfully through either the BPSBS stallion assessment prior to 2006 or the current SPSBS voluntary veterinary examination. Children under 14 years old may not show colts or entire males in in-hand classes. SPSBS Rules require that exhibitors should not kneel but remain standing while in the ring and all handlers aged 14 years or under must wear a hard hat.

These classes are qualifiers for the NPS/Niart Stud M&M In Hand Summer Championship. Owners do not have to be NPS members to enter these classes but only ponies owned by NPS Qualifying or Life Members can qualify for the final. The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified. To receive qualification owner's membership cards must be shown in the ring.

The right is reserved to amalgamate or divide classes if numbers forward dictate.
